Okupa describes occupation of a property without legal title. It is a genuine problem for owners of empty property, and recovering possession runs through the same slow judicial route as any eviction.
It is also, straightforwardly, a marketing engine: alarm systems, insurance products and rapid-eviction services are sold against it, and the coverage is louder than the incidence.
For a buyer the actionable version is narrow and checkable: establish the occupancy status of a property before committing, particularly where the price is conspicuously below the area's rate.
