A post-office service producing certified proof of what you sent and when — the step before court.
A burofax is sent through the postal service and produces a certified record of the content, the recipient and the date. That record is what turns 'they are ignoring me' into a dated formal demand.
It is the standard step before a small claim in Spain, and it is the document a judge asks for. An email does not do the same job, because its content and delivery are both arguable.
It is also frequently the last step needed. A landlord who has been ignoring messages often responds to a certified demand citing the article they are in breach of.
